What is knowledge-based authentication (KBA)?

Knowledge-based authentication, commonly referred to as KBA, is a method of authentication that seeks to prove the identity of someone accessing a service such as a financial institution or website. 

During KBA, a series of questions is provided, such as previous home addresses or vehicles owned, to confirm your identity.
